Accommodation
The Cortijo – comprising some 500 square metres on two floors – has eight double/twin bedrooms and six bathrooms. The communal areas include: two living rooms, a dining room, kitchen, larder and laundry room, a library, games-room, and TV room. A computer with internet facility is available in the Cortijo and mobile reception is adequate. Floor plans of the house [may be downloaded]. The Cortijo has its own private, solar-power-heated swimming pool (9 by 3mts), barbecue area, large pergola-shaded terrace with stunning 360-degree views. Complimentary meal - On arrival, all guests receive a complimentary meal; be it a warming fireside casserole in winter or a refreshing gazpacho and tortilla in summer. Organic local produce - the Cortijo is kept well-stocked with basic foodstuffs and domestic supplies. Local products are provided whenever possible, such as the honey from hives kept on the estate which is available during spring and summer, or the locally-produced award-winning olive oil. Good local restaurants can be found, with three in Segura de la Sierra alone. Pre-order service - Guests making use of the optional food supply service will find their pre-ordered shopping waiting for them. The Cortijo’s wine store can also be stocked as required with a carefully chosen selection of Spanish wines, supplied with wine-tasting notes. Guests place their orders with payment in advance. Maid service - Apart from the weekly clean and change of linen, a mid-week tidy-up is provided. All beds and bedrooms are of course kept to a high level of comfort. Should further cleaning assistance be needed, this can be arranged. A cook can also be hired occasionally if required. The original estate farmhouse – el Cortijo de Río Madera – was built in two different periods. It has been completely restored in the traditional style by local architects and artisans, whilst incorporating the latest environmentally-friendly technology. Original stone and timber features have been retained where possible, solar power and under-floor heating have been installed, whilst wood from the estate serves as fuel for the large open fireplace and stoves.
